When Lincoln Stagg arrived at Easterseals at just five months old, his future was full of question marks. Born with an incredibly rare genetic disorder, one with only a few hundred known cases in the entire world, his family had no roadmap, no precedent, and no way of knowing what to expect. Among the most serious possibilities: Lincoln might never walk.
What followed was a journey that would redefine what his family thought was possible.
Starting at Easterseals
Lincoln dove into a full slate of therapies (physical, occupational, feeding, and speech) working on the foundational skills most children develop without a second thought. Rolling. Sitting independently. Finding a way to move through the world on his own terms. After a major surgery in his early years, he bounced back with a resilience that left his care team in awe.
"The only thing I can remember thinking," his therapist recalled, "is this boy is so resilient."
And then came the moment that stopped the whole building: Lincoln's first steps at Easterseals.
From First Steps to Becoming ‘Mayor’
Today, Lincoln doesn't just walk; he runs down the hallway. He jumps. He climbs stairs. He rides a balance bike and plays catch. When he falls, he gets back up. Every single time. His therapists describe a boy with a relentless drive, an infectious personality, and a gift for making everyone around him feel like they matter.
At Easterseals, Lincoln is something of a legend. "He is our mayor," one staff member said with a laugh. "He is shaking hands, kissing babies, wants to know how everybody's doing."
How Easterseals Impacts Lincoln & His Family
For his parents, Easterseals has been more than a therapy provider; it has been a lifeline.
"They have poured into him and loved him as if he was their own," his father shared. "They have no idea what that means to a parent that feels helpless."
As Lincoln prepares to attend the newly opened Easterseals Academy for kindergarten, his family carries with them not a set of prescribed milestones, but something far more powerful: confidence in the journey.
A Story of Hope
"I don't need to know how the book ends," his father said, "to enjoy the journey with him."
Lincoln's story is, at its core, what Easterseals is all about: showing up for a child the world wasn't sure about, and watching him prove the world wrong. One step, one run, one leap at a time.
