Job Description

Summary: Provides support to outpatient services. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining therapy treatment space, equipment, and supplies. Provides administrative support in the areas of filing, distributing mail and other correspondence, data entry, and creating therapy materials. Provides support during treatment sessions under the direction of a licensed therapist.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Therapy Support

  • Maintains therapy supply inventory including purchasing and restocking.
  • Assists with transporting children between therapy and the classroom.
  • Creates therapy materials, including visual aids and communication tools under the direction of the therapists.
  • Checks children out of class for fitting and measuring of orthotics or equipment such as wheelchairs or standers.
  • Under the direction of a therapist, prepares space for, assists with, and cleans up after group (social skills, life skills and/or feeding therapy) meetings or therapy sessions. 
  • Checks outlets in Outpatient Services spaces and hallways for outlet covers.
  • Records daily refrigerator/freezer temperatures where applicable in therapy treatment rooms.

Equipment Management

  • Maintains master list of therapy equipment in storage and updates as equipment moves in and out of storage.
  • Organizes therapy equipment and space and ensures items and equipment are easy to access and are properly put away after use. 
  • Cleans equipment including standers, walkers, wheelchairs, harnesses. 
  • Monitors hallways to ensure therapy equipment is stored in such a way as to not impede traffic flow.

Orthotics Support

  • Provides limited support to Orthotics tech, therapists, or durable medical equipment vendors under the direction of the therapists.

Cleaning and Disinfection

  • Cleans and disinfects evaluation room prior to each evaluation.
  • Disinfects and cleans therapy mats, toys, and equipment daily and returns them to their original location. 
  • Cleans splints and orthotics.
  • Ensures laundry is cleaned daily and stored in all necessary locations. 
  • Prepares food items for feeding therapy and cleans and disinfects treatment areas after feeding sessions.
  • Maintains cleaning supply inventory including purchasing and restocking.

Clerical

  • Assembles new charts for incoming infant monitoring and therapy patients. 
  • Takes apart files and process for storage when children/students are discharged.
  • Assists in data entry as delegated.
  • Assists with maintaining therapy bulletin board content.

While performing the duties of this job, employee will comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to Easter Seals Arkansas.


Employee has access to all client protected health information in the therapy working file for persons directly served by this position. Employee will not attempt to access any other protected health information unless otherwise approved by Supervisor or Privacy Officer.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Education and/or Experience:                 

Enrolled in a graduate therapy program at UAMS.


Competencies:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals receiving services with diverse ability levels and employees with diverse experience and knowledge levels.
  • Ability to be self-directed, creative and to take initiative.
  • Competency with computer skills, i.e., Microsoft and Goggle applications including Word/Goggle Docs, Excel/Google Sheets and Gmail.

The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
