Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Designs, repairs and adjusts adaptive equipment of persons served in the residential program. Purchases equipment and supplies. Completes all required paperwork for equipment ordering and modification and maintains diligent records. Trains individuals on proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.


Designs, constructs and adjusts assistive devices according to therapists, specifications for items such as standers, corner chairs, table/chairs, adaptive toilet seats, communication access.


Instructs individuals served and staff on proper maintenance and care of equipment.


Repairs and performs routine maintenance on equipment to extend life and assure safe and proper use.


Operates audio-visual equipment to document stages of progress of individuals served by the program.


Serves as liaison between therapy department and other departments regarding care, maintenance, and correct use of adaptive equipment.


Compiles therapy data and required paperwork for equipment ordering for vendors and completes other paperwork.


Maintains client equipment database including wheelchair modifications and maintenance.


Assists in treatment program, ie. lifting/positioning under supervision.


Replaces items and equipment after use to maintain order.


Reports equipment and supply needs to supervisor.


Attends and participates in department meetings.


Purchase supplies and needed equipment.


Picks-up and delivers equipment and supplies.


Assists with transporting individuals served to home, out of state, or local appointments as related to therapy.


Assists with therapeutic feeding during mealtimes.


Assists with adaptive modifications to home and equipment for discharged individuals.


Assists therapy team and travels with team for home evaluations for discharges.


Assists with repairing/purchasing equipment for discharging individuals.


Serves as liaison with community service providers and outside vendors regarding ordering, maintenance, and tailoring of equipment to meet individual needs.


Clean wheelchairs quarterly through thorough disinfection and power washing.


Assists in emergency situations involving the vans or other Easterseals vehicles, ie. lifts, flat tires.


Back-up emergency van driver.


Assists in procurement, placement, and modification of assistive language devices.


Assistance in placement of switches for assistive language devices and computer access.


Problem-solve and fabricate items for all departments as needed.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.


Compliance/HIPAA: While performing the duties of this job, employee will comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to Easterseals Arkansas.


Employee has access to all client protected health information of the individuals directly served by this person, except psychotherapy notes. Employee will not attempt to access any other protected health information unless otherwise approved by Supervisor or Privacy Officer.


Job Requirements

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. One year craftsmanship experience with various sources (wood, metal, plastics) preferred.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Arkansas Driver’s License.


Other Skills and Abilities:

Skills to use tools to fix, adapt, and construct equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
