Easterseals Arkansas is committed to supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving their personal and professional goals. Ryan, a past participant in the ACCE (Academy for Supported Employment and Education) program, is a great example of how this support helps people gain confidence, learn new skills, and prepare for the future.
Easterseals Arkansas is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities by providing them with the tools, resources, and support they need to lead fulfilling lives. One of the most impactful ways we achieve this is through the ACCE program. This program helps young adults gain independence, develop valuable life skills, and prepare for meaningful employment opportunities.
Every participant has a unique story, and today, we’re highlighting Ryan—a young man whose journey with the ACCE program showcases the power of community, encouragement, and hands-on learning. His growth, enthusiasm, and drive to achieve his goals make him an inspiration to those around him.

Ryan’s Growth: Excitement and New Skills
Ryan’s father, Elgin Junior, has seen the impact of the ACCE program firsthand. Every day, when Ryan would get in the car after attending ACCE, he wouldn’t just say his day was good—he would exclaim that it was great. He eagerly shared details about his activities, and his enthusiasm was contagious.
One of Ryan’s favorite parts of the program is the cooking section. The first time he participated, he couldn’t wait to describe every step, from the ingredients to the final dish. He would always look forward to each session, excited to build new skills to help him become more independent.
Ryan is also working toward a long-term goal of earning his driver’s license. His determination, along with support from his family and Easterseals Arkansas, is helping him take steps toward achieving this milestone.
The ACCE Program: Preparing Young Adults for Success
The ACCE (Academy for Supported Employment and Education) program helps young adults with disabilities transition into the workforce and independent living. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and skill-building activities, participants develop the confidence and abilities they need to succeed in different areas of life. The program fosters independence, workplace readiness, and a sense of community.
Participants engage in a wide range of learning experiences, including vocational training, life skills development, and social enrichment. The program provides personalized support to help each individual work toward their unique goals, whether that involves gaining employment, continuing education, or enhancing their day-to-day living skills.
One of the standout features of ACCE is its collaborative approach. Participants have opportunities to work alongside professionals, gain hands-on experience in real-world settings, and develop relationships with mentors who guide them in their journey toward self-sufficiency. Additionally, ACCE partners with local businesses and organizations to create meaningful employment pathways tailored to each participant’s strengths and aspirations.
By focusing on skill-building in a structured yet supportive environment, ACCE ensures that young adults with disabilities have the foundation they need to thrive both professionally and personally.
