For parents Tammy and Brad Gridley, the early years of their son Zack’s life were filled with uncertainty. When Zack wasn’t reaching certain developmental milestones, they knew they needed support. That’s when they turned to Easterseals Arkansas, an organization that would become instrumental in Zack’s journey.
“When you're the parent of a child with challenges, it's hard to describe the feeling—you just feel helpless,” Tammy recalls. “Early intervention made all the difference. The professionalism and dedication of the therapists at Easterseals—it’s been life-changing for Zack and for us.”
Easterseals provided more than therapy—it gave the Gridley family hope and a vision for what was possible. Instead of focusing on limitations, they were able to focus on growth and opportunities for Zack.
Zack’s Journey: From Therapy to Eagle Scout
From the start, Zack’s determination was evident. With the help of Easterseals’ early intervention services, he began developing the skills he needed to succeed. Over time, Zack’s hard work and perseverance extended beyond therapy—into his passion for scouting.
“I am an Eagle Scout. That is the highest rank a Scout can earn,” Zack proudly states.
Bill Neal, Zack’s Scout Leader, has seen thousands of kids participate in the program over his 40 years of involvement. But Zack stands out, he says.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone quite as excited about scouting as Zack. He took to it like a duck to water—just soaked it all in and wanted to be part of it. What also helped was how the other kids in the troop embraced him. They were inspired by his determination.”
That determination carried Zack through years of scouting challenges, culminating in an achievement that only 4% of Scouts ever reach—earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. This milestone is a testament to Zack’s dedication and resilience.
“If I had to describe Zack in one word, it would be motivated,” Neal adds. “He never got discouraged, never took the easy route. He was disciplined, hardworking, and determined.”
“I hope to have earned 49 merit badges by the time I finish,” Zack shares. “The support I’ve received has helped me so much.”
Beyond scouting, Zack has demonstrated exceptional perseverance in many aspects of his life. Whether it was tackling academic challenges or physical obstacles, he faced each one head-on with a determination that inspired everyone around him.
From Therapy to YouTube: “Zack Attacks Food”
In addition to his scouting and academic pursuits, Zack has recently launched his own YouTube channel, Zack Attacks Food. With the help of his Easterseals therapist, Zack developed the channel as a creative and engaging way to continue his occupational and physical therapy. From filming food reviews to editing videos, the project has given him new opportunities to work on fine motor skills, speech, and self-expression—all while having fun and sharing his unique personality with the world.
“It’s been such a cool way to combine his therapy goals with something he’s passionate about,” says his therapist. “He’s learning real-world skills and building confidence in front of the camera.”
Whether he’s taste-testing local cuisine or giving his honest opinion on snacks, Zack brings the same energy and determination to his videos that he does to every challenge he faces.
