At Easterseals Arkansas, we believe in celebrating the passionate individuals who bring our mission to life every single day. These are the people behind the progress—those who help children, teens, and adults with disabilities gain independence, confidence, and a greater quality of life. This month, we shine a spotlight on one of our outstanding team members: Meredith Wilson, an Occupational Therapist whose energy, empathy, and expertise are shaping a brighter future for the young adults at The Academy at Easterseals Arkansas.
With a strong academic background, a heart for service, and a clear vision for empowering others, Meredith’s story reminds us of what’s possible when people lead with purpose.
From Passion to Purpose: Meredith’s Journey to Easterseals
For Meredith Wilson, working at Easterseals Arkansas is much more than a job—it’s a reflection of her personal mission to serve and uplift others. Before joining the team, Meredith was already passionate about helping individuals with disabilities overcome obstacles and live more independent lives.
“I wanted to work for Easterseals because I’m passionate about helping individuals overcome barriers and reach their full potential,” she explains. “The mission of Easterseals is to empower and support those with disabilities, which aligns with my own values, and I wanted to join a team that is dedicated to creating meaningful, lasting change in people’s lives.”
Meredith brings years of focused education and specialized training to her role. After earning her Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Central Arkansas in 2017, she continued her studies at Arkansas State University, where she obtained her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) in 2021. In addition to being a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L), Meredith is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS)—a credential that highlights her dedication to understanding complex needs and delivering specialized care.
Professional Impact: Meredith’s Role at The Academy
At The Academy at Easterseals Arkansas, Meredith plays an instrumental role in preparing students for the real world through occupational therapy interventions focused on life skills, vocational training, and confidence-building. She collaborates closely with educators and therapists to create customized strategies that meet each student’s unique goals.
“The one problem I’m best at solving is helping individuals develop the skills and confidence they need to transition into independent adulthood,” Meredith says. “Whether it’s teaching life skills, pre-vocational skills, or adapting strategies to ensure success, I focus on empowering them to take charge of their own futures.”
Her colleagues and clients alike know her for being patient, understanding, and deeply invested in the success of those she serves. She has a talent for meeting students where they are, gently pushing them toward growth while celebrating every win, big or small.
“I believe they would say that I’m someone who genuinely cares and is always willing to adjust my approach to help them succeed,” she adds. “That flexibility and commitment to teamwork are at the core of everything I do.”
A Team Approach to Transformation
One of Meredith’s greatest strengths is her belief in the power of collaboration. She doesn’t see success as something achieved alone, but rather as the outcome of a united team working toward a common goal.
“I would say my strengths are my flexibility, adaptability, and being a team player,” she says. “I thrive in collaboration, and I love working with others to brainstorm solutions and support our shared goals. Our clients’ success doesn’t come from one person—it comes from the collective efforts of a dedicated team.”
It’s this team-first mindset that makes Meredith such a valued part of the Easterseals community. Her ability to listen, adapt, and innovate ensures that every student she works with receives not only expert care but also heartfelt encouragement and support.
Passion with Purpose: Supporting Teens and Young Adults
Meredith’s work is deeply personal, and her focus on helping teenagers and young adults reflects her belief in the importance of that pivotal stage of life. She knows that the transition to adulthood can be overwhelming, especially for individuals with disabilities, and she is driven to make that transition smoother, more supported, and full of possibility.
“I’m passionate about working with our teenage and young adult population because I believe everyone deserves the chance to lead an independent and fulfilling life,” she shares. “By creating more job opportunities and helping develop essential life skills, we empower them to take control of their future. It’s not just about giving them the tools to succeed—it’s about building confidence, bridging the gap during that critical transition, and improving their overall quality of life.”
This passion extends beyond the walls of The Academy. Meredith volunteers with the Embrace Special Needs Ministry at Fellowship Bible Church WLR, where she helps lead a class for adults with special needs. The ministry offers a welcoming space for worship, Bible study, and inclusive activities, and for Meredith, it’s another meaningful way to give back.
A Life of Balance: Meredith Beyond the Workplace
Outside of her professional and volunteer commitments, Meredith finds joy in the simple, restorative parts of life. She’s a proud mom who treasures time spent with her children and family, and she embraces her hobbies with the same enthusiasm she brings to her work.
“In my free time, I love reading a good book, baking something sweet, and exploring new places whenever I can,” she says. “I’m also a big fan of movie nights, and most of all, spending quality time with my kiddos.”
Meredith grew up in Ward, Arkansas, and graduated from Cabot High School. Today, she lives in Bryant, AR, where she continues to build her life around her family and her calling. And yes, she’s a thrill-seeker too—Meredith has been skydiving, an experience that speaks to her adventurous spirit!
“It was incredible,” she says with a smile. “A once-in-a-lifetime experience that really pushed me outside my comfort zone.”
One thing she says she definitely couldn’t give up? Her daily coffee—a well-earned boost that fuels her busy days!
A Legacy of Empowerment
When Meredith thinks about how she wants to be remembered, her response reflects her commitment to long-term impact:
“I want to be remembered as a change agent—someone who made a lasting impact by creating opportunities, empowering others, and driving positive transformation,” she says.
And that’s exactly how she’s seen by her colleagues and clients alike: a force for good, a source of hope, and a tireless advocate for the individuals she serves.
