At Easterseals Arkansas, the heartbeat of our mission lies in the dedication of our incredible team members. This week, meet Rosalind “Rahz” Smith, our ACCE Program Coordinator. She is one of the many people who go above and beyond each day to help individuals with disabilities lead more independent and fulfilled lives.
A Passion for Care
Rosalind “Rahz” Smith brings boundless energy and a go-getter mindset to her role as ACCE Coordinator at Easterseals, where she’s now in her second year of guiding individuals toward meaningful career and college opportunities. With a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Grambling State University and a master’s in Education from Southern Arkansas University, Rahz’s journey into Easterseals began quite by chance. While working as a Child Abuse Hotline Operator for ASP, she spotted an instructor position at the Center for Training & Wellness on Indeed. Intrigued by the opportunity, she applied on a whim:
“Little did I know, it would turn out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.”
Over the years, Rahz has served as a Health & Nutrition Instructor, Transition and Employment Specialist, and even contributed through part-time waiver work, honing her skills as an advisor, advocate, and creative problem-solver.
Celebrating Life and Laughter
Known throughout the ACCE program as a natural “go-getter,” Rahz tackles every challenge with enthusiasm and efficiency. Whether she’s brainstorming strategies to lift her clients’ spirits or donning a goofy grin to spark laughter, she’s quick to lend support, both in and out of the classroom:
“I go the extra mile for them.”
Her colleagues and clients alike rely on her for advice, encouragement, and those extra-special birthday celebrations that have become her signature. Though she jokingly warns newcomers about her “mean face,” it’s her warmth, silliness, and unwavering dedication that truly define her approach to service.
Life Beyond Work: Embracing Her Inner Kid
Away from her desk, Rahz lives life to the fullest. A self-confessed “big kid at heart,” you might find her tearing up a mud trail on a four-wheeler one weekend, challenging friends to a friendly paintball skirmish the next, or trying out the newest restaurant in town.
As an avid baker, she takes delight in crafting sweet treats for her family, friends, and even her students. Although when fasting, she admits that sweets and social media are two indulgences she begrudgingly gives up. A former college bowling team member at Grambling, she’s traded in her bowling prowess for enthusiastic cheers at local alleys in Maumelle, the quaint Arkansas town she now calls home after growing up in Crossett.
A Legacy of Hope
Rahz hopes one day to mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters and explore foster parenting, extending the same care and compassion she brings to Easterseals every day. Above all, she wants to ensure her legacy at Easterseals:
“Simply remember me as someone who went through the battle without armor and still made it through.
A testament to her resilience, her joy, and the inspiring spirit she shares with everyone around her, Rahz is an inspiration to all at Easterseals.
