Matthew Howard’s journey with Easterseals Arkansas began in 2002 when he started as a part-time Direct Support Professional (DSP), assisting a young man at the Armistead Village Apartments. This role, which combined practical needs with his passion for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, proved to be a perfect fit. Over the years, Matthew has taken on many roles within Easterseals Arkansas, including his current position as Director of Process Improvement and User Support. However, his dedication to supporting the Waiver program and his roots as a Direct Support Professional have remained a constant. His deep connection to this program and to his work as a DSP stems from his early experiences at Easterseals Arkansas. His commitment to its success is unwavering.

Matthew’s impressive educational journey reflects his love of learning. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Theology, and a Juris Doctor. He has attended institutions across the country, including Cuesta Junior College, Colorado State University, and Bowen School of Law. If given the chance, Matthew dreams of auditing literature classes in retirement, demonstrating his enduring thirst for knowledge.

A Southern California native, Matthew left home at 25 to work in ministry with the LGBTQ+ community—a path that led him to Colorado Springs, then Little Rock, where he met his late husband, Craig. Together for 39 years, they built a life filled with love and purpose.
Matthew’s sense of humor is as notable as his accomplishments. Once, during a high school play, he accidentally set his hair on fire in front of a live audience—then stayed perfectly in character! That mischievous kid still lives within him, ready to embrace life’s quirks with laughter.
