Quinten Sperberg didn’t just show up to compete; he showed up to grow. As a dedicated swimmer with the Siloam Springs Area 3 Special Olympics program, Quinten recently delivered an extraordinary performance: five gold medals, one silver, and two bronze across recent competitions. Behind every medal is a story of daily commitment, supportive coaching, and a community that believes every athlete deserves a place to belong. We are so proud to have Quinten in our Easterseals Arkansas family!
A Champion Built Through Consistency
Great results rarely come from one big moment. They come from many small choices made over time.
Quinten trains almost every day at the John Brown University (JBU) College pool. That steady rhythm of practice, recovery, and repeat, has helped him strengthen technique, endurance, and confidence. It also reflects something Special Olympics athletes and Easterseals Arkansas families know well: progress is personal, and consistency matters.

For Quinten, the pool is more than a training site. It’s a place where effort is celebrated, goals are reachable, and improvement is visible. When we asked him about his love of swimming, he responded:
My love is swimming and I swim for Siloam springs area 3 Special Olympics. I love swimming and some other sports I do. Swimming is always first but it's fun work to go to the pool at JBU College almost everyday to work out and swim. I've gotten 5 Gold metals, 1 silver metal, and 2 bronze! It goes to show hard work and a little fun pays off.” – Quinten
Why Inclusive Sports Matter for Athletes with Disabilities
Quinten’s medal haul is inspiring, and it’s a true testament to what inclusive sports make possible.
Special Olympics programs create environments where athletes can develop skills and relationships that extend far beyond competition day. With consistent participation, athletes often gain:
- Confidence through measurable progress and achievement
- Social connection and community belonging
- Routine, wellness, and healthy movement
- Communication, teamwork, and self-advocacy skills
- Pride that carries into school, work, and everyday life
These outcomes don’t happen by accident. They happen when families, volunteers, coaches, and community partners commit to making sports accessible. And when athletes like Quinten bring joy and perseverance to every practice.
Perseverance, Fun, and the Power of Showing Up
One of the most powerful parts of Quinten’s story is that it’s grounded in something simple: he keeps showing up.
Training nearly daily takes discipline, but it also takes the right atmosphere: one where athletes are encouraged to work hard, enjoy the process, and feel safe making mistakes. That combination of fun and focus is often what turns participation into true transformation.
Quinten’s results are proof that effort compounds. Each lap, each practice, each meet builds momentum.
What Quinten’s success reminds all of us
Quinten’s achievements are a celebration of talent, dedication, and the strength of inclusive community programs. They’re also a reminder that when communities invest in accessibility. Whether in schools, sports, workplaces, or health services, people with disabilities do more than just participate. They thrive.
At Easterseals Arkansas, we believe in that same mission: empowering people with disabilities to live, learn, work, and play in their communities. Through inclusive education and therapy services, including our Developmental Preschool, Easterseals Academy (K–12), and Pediatric Outpatient Therapy, we support children and families as they build skills, confidence, and independence over time.
Celebrating athletes like Quinten is one way we strengthen inclusive communities; because every achievement helps reshape what our communities expect, welcome, and champion. Learn more about our programs and how we serve families across Arkansas.
