Let’s hear it for the 2018 ACCE graduates who have soared to new heights, proving that with determination, every dream is within reach! This milestone marks not only their personal triumph but heralds a brighter, more inclusive future in the workforce.
Through our potent collaboration with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the ACCE (Academic, Community, Career Development, and Employment Program) has enriched the lives of its students.
In a short span of one year, this pioneering program has skyrocketed and boasted a remarkable 70% surge in enrollment. The positive ripple effect extends even further; three of the twelve ambitious graduates have seamlessly transitioned into the professional sphere, ready to carve out their own path.
A Nurturing Ground for Budding Talents
The genesis of the ACCE program was fueled by a critical realization — the underrepresentation of individuals with disabilities in the employment sector between 2010 and 2012, with only a 32% employment rate according to the Department of Labor.
Thus, ACCE embarked on a mission to change the narrative, guided by studies illustrating the transformative power of post-secondary education in elevating career prospects and earning potential for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Spotlight on the Stars of ACCE
Standing tall amongst his peers is Joshua Fletcher, honored as this year’s “Associate of the Year” for his dedication and stellar performance throughout his time at ACCE.
Joshua honed his skills at notable platforms including the UA Little Rock Ground Services and The Showroom, crafting custom frames. As he steps into a promising future, Joshua will channel his talents into a full-time role at Dillard’s Fulfillment Center, coupled with a continuous endeavor at The Showroom.
Embracing the rich diversity of opportunities, the graduates seized hands-on experience at several esteemed establishments, ranging from the Ottenheimer Library and Sodexo to the dynamic fields of fitness centers, and Easterseals Developmental Preschool.
Jonmichal Walker, a young visionary of 19 years, cherishes the camaraderie cultivated during his ACCE journey. The harmonious blend of educational growth and social connections fostered through interactions with fellow students and the supportive guidance of the ACCE instructor Leslie Harms, has been a cornerstone of his experience.
A technology enthusiast at heart, Jonmichal aspires to be part of customer service in an electronics store to channel his passion post-graduation.
Sowing Seeds for a Richer Community Experience
Embarking on a holistic journey, ACCE students have become a part of the Trojan spirit, engaging actively in student activities and further enriching the college experience. They have breathed life into the University’s vision for a more interconnected community, fostering diversity and paving the way for illuminative discussions rooted in their rich and unique experiences.
A Future Full of Possibilities
As we celebrate the phenomenal journey of our ACCE graduates, we remain committed to nurturing the wellspring of talents, equipped to lead, and ready to seize the future with unyielding spirit and tenacity.
With beaming faces and hearts brimming with hope, we salute the 2018 ACCE graduates. Congratulations; the world is richer with you in it!
