Empowering Independence at Wilson Court: Matthew’s Story

Matthew

Meet Matthew, a vibrant 35-year-old, and a proud resident of Wilson Court, one of our cherished apartment communities. Let’s delve into his inspiring journey, where he’s thriving, enjoying the company of friends, and pursuing his passions.

Chasing Dreams Amidst Trophies

Walk into Matthew’s cozy apartment, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by the essence of his joyful life. Adorning the top of his bookcase are photographs of loved ones, reminders of the people who mean the world to him. Nestled beside these cherished memories is his collection of media entertainment – a testament to his love for movies and music.

But what truly stands out are the numerous gleaming bowling trophies that adorn his living space. These aren’t just any trophies; they are the fruits of his dedication and skill, earned through countless hours of practice at Professor Bowl. Currently, Matthew’s team is leading the pack in first place, a testament to his unwavering passion for the sport.

A 13-Year Journey at Wilson Court

Matthew’s journey at Wilson Court spans an impressive 13 years. What makes this journey even more remarkable is the support he receives from the dedicated employees who provide our in-home Medicaid Waiver services. These remarkable individuals play a crucial role in helping Matthew maintain his independence.

Matthew’s days are filled with adventure and camaraderie. His friends and caregivers from the in-home Medicaid Waiver services make sure of that. Together, they embark on Starbucks runs, where Matthew’s go-to drink is a white chocolate mocha – unless it’s the festive holiday season, during which he gleefully switches to a peppermint mocha, indulging in the holiday spirit.

Library trips and treasure hunts at Goodwill are also on their list of favorite activities, fostering a sense of exploration and excitement. Not to forget their invigorating workouts at Jim Dailey Fitness & Aquatic Center, where health and fitness take center stage.

Unforgettable Outings and Adventures

But the adventure doesn’t stop there. Matthew and his friends have the privilege of hopping on the dedicated Wilson Court van, a vehicle that opens doors to exciting experiences. Whether it’s dancing the night away at our Center for Training & Wellness or embarking on day trips to Park Plaza Mall, these outings are brimming with laughter, camaraderie, and cherished memories.

A Mother’s Gratitude

Matthew’s journey of independence and fulfillment has not only touched his life but has deeply resonated with his mother, Carolyn. She reflects, “Easterseals and Wilson Court have helped Matthew be as independent as he can be. And it’s so nice to have the extra support with cleaning and maintenance.”
