Michael’s story is one of resilience and commitment, rooted in his hometown of Hot Springs. He’s a proud graduate of Lake Hamilton High School, where his journey to becoming a community living representative began.
In 2004, Michael embarked on a mission to Washington, D.C., driven by a deep sense of purpose. His goal was clear: advocating for individuals with disabilities to receive competitive pay for competitive employment. This endeavor marked the beginning of his remarkable journey in the world of disability rights.
A Move Towards Independence
Michael’s path led him to Little Rock, where he joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in the Housekeeping department. Here, he not only contributed to the institution’s upkeep but also became a symbol of dedication and hard work.
In 2014, a new chapter unfolded as Michael made the strategic decision to move to Armistead Village Apartment. Later, he chose to transfer to Wilson Court, a decision driven by his desire to be closer to UAMS.
Michael’s story takes an academic turn that showcases his commitment to self-improvement. Despite his demanding role at UAMS, he pursued a degree at the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College. In 2016, he emerged with not one but two Associate degrees – one in Fine Arts and the other in Business.
Employee of the Month For Two Times
Even amidst his academic pursuits, Michael continued to excel at UAMS. His dedication and contributions earned him the prestigious title of “Employee of the Month” not once, but twice. This accolade reflects his outstanding work ethic and the impact he has on his workplace.
